Several visitors have requested that we add a page for resources such as support and meet-up groups, doctors and medical facilities, dietitians and nutritionists, etc. Like most of the suggestions we receive, we thought this was a great idea and the page has been added. As with our Registries, we wanted our visitors to be able to provide comments and ratings about these Resources.

Hope and promise - GF going mainstream!

Last weekend we went grocery shopping. Many of your know that shopping with Celiac disease at one of the large grocery chains can be a very depressing and frustrating experience. But this weekend we saw yet another example of a major corporation getting on board with gluten-free.

General Mills™, the giant food manufacturer, has changed the recipe for their popular Rice Chex® cereal to be gluten-free. This wasn't just some random recipe change that happened to make their product gluten-free. They are actually marketing Rice Chex® with Gluten-Free in big bold print on the front of the box!

We could, for the first time, buy a GF cereal in the cereal isle of a major grocery store chain just like everyone else! It sounds like such a trivial thing, but it has provided us with a renewed sense of hope and promise. General Mills™ is now a sponsor of the Celiac Disease Foundation, and have even added some GF recipes on their website. Look for other manufacturers to follow suit.

Calling All Gluten-Free Crusaders!

This is a call to all gluten-free crusaders. We have an awesome opportunity to send a message to corporate America about the need for gluten-free foods. Starbucks, a universally recognized business name, actually has a gluten-free product line that they offer in countries outside of the United States. So why don't they offer it here? My guess is that they don't think there is enough demand. Well now is the time to correct this misperception and send a message to other corporations as well.

Starbucks is trying to boost up their business and is calling for our ideas on improving their business. To facilitate this they have created a website. Please, please, please do the following:

Create a login.
Do a search for Gluten Free Foods.
Find the entry created on 3/19 at 9:28 AM by eluke.
Vote for the entry and post your own thoughts.

It is imperative that we vote for that specific entry so Starbucks will take notice. They don't seem to take notice of lots of individual entries, just the ones with lots of votes and comments.

Other corporations will take notice if we can get Starbucks to offer gluten-free foods in the United States. This is our chance to raise our collective voices and say "We want gluten-free!". Your support is greatly appreciated!

Summer is coming, and with that comes vacations and traveling. Sticking to a Gluten-Free diet while traveling is exceptionally difficult. Here are a few GF travel tips:

Stage 2 GF baby food (don't laugh) is conveniently packaged and typically doesn't require refrigeration. Most of us don't get enough servings of fruits and vegetables. Think of these as healthy "snack packs". Make sure to check with current TSA restrictions if you will be flying to your vacation destination.
Order non-perishable GF foods on-line to be delivered to your travel destination. If nothing else you'll at least have some snacks and cereals to help keep hunger from causing a moment of weakness. Check out the grocers and bakeries in our registry.
Use our site to research gluten-free friendly restaurants, bakeries and grocers near your vacation destination. Call before your trip to confirm availability of GF items.
Go grocery shopping for GF perishables after you check into your hotel room. Fruits, vegetables, cheeses, GF yogurts, etc all make convenient snacks.
Visit gfregistry.mobi on your mobile phone to find gluten-free friendly businesses at your travel destination by area code or zip code.
